In just its third season of intercollegiate competition, the women’s golf team earned its first ever NCAA Women’s Golf regional bid. The men’s basketball team earned its second consecutive NCAA bid, following wins against UVA, UNC and Duke. The Hokies clinched the Commonwealth Clash for the second consecutive season, defeating UVA 12.5-8.5 After playing the fourth-toughest schedule in the nation, the men’s soccer team made its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Virginia Tech wrestling team claimed its second straight ACC Championship and the fourth in program history. The men’s track and field team placed fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championships, marking the program’s best finish. The men’s DMR team claimed the gold medal. The football team’s appearance in the 2017 Camping World Bowl was the 25th straight for the Hokies, the longest active streak as recognized by the NCAA. The women’s basketball team won 23 games for the first time since the 2003-04 season and finished runner-up in the WNIT.
